Hi Dan, Infracost doesn’t support savings plans yet. There’s an open issue about it but I’m not sure if that method of specifying them scales. May I ask why you’d like saving plans to be taken into account?
b
Because we don’t use RIs at all. We specifically use Compute Savings Plans and I wonder how off estimates for EC2 spend would be without taking that into account.
Im just starting on playing with the community version so I definitely have a lot to learn 🙂
Im sure it’s insanely complex which is why I was assuming it jsut wasnt part of the tooling yet
w
makes sense - I always ask the “why” to get a better sense of the context. Unfortunately it’s not easy but we have an idea we want to try as part of Infracost Cloud since fetching that data on each CLI run is too slow (in our first startup in 2012 we were digesting billing data from AWS and reverse-engineering the RI discounts, that was before AWS had cost explorer APIs 🙂 )
Would you want the people seeing PR comments to see the Saving Plan discounts, or only see on-demand costs so they focus on reducing the usage, and centralized devops/infra/finops team focuses on buying savings plans against that usage to reduce the cost?
b
Probably both but I don’t have any data internally on want folks would want.

I’m just poking at it for now and learning where things are. It’s super cool as it stands already 🙂

Awesome - ping us if we can help with any issues 🙂

Almost on the same topic I’ve looked for an equivalent issue for GCP CUD (Committed Use Discount) and did not find one. Should I open one ?

Yes please 🙂
